What We Do

Our Purpose

“Our purpose is to advance God’s Kingdom by making & gathering disciples from all nations into the worshipping community, baptizing them in the name of the Triune God, and teaching them to live in accordance with the new reality that has arrived in Jesus Christ. We are called to make known in Elkhart the reconciling love of King Jesus & the privilege of glorifying & enjoying God forever to all who repent & believe.” (Matthew 28:19-20, Colossians 1:19-20)

Our Mission

Heart City Church’s mission is to have a God-glorifying, gospel-saturated, worshipping community filled with diverse members who are growing in recognition of the implications of their union with Christ. Heart City Church will be faithful, having “steel in its spine” when it comes to living as those called out to be separate (2 Corinthians 6:17), yet having that same “steel” while seeking to be fruitful by engaging in the call to outward facing evangelism!

  • Establish a faithful and fruitful God-glorifying church that is Christ-centered, Spirit-led, and dependent upon the outward and ordinary means of grace to convince and convert sinners and to build up the saints in holiness and comfort.
  • Provide worship that is accessible to and represents the diverse people groups. This does not mean diversity and multi-cultural accessibility for the sake of being demographically reflective but rather a striving to reach those neighbors God foreordained to live in our community.
  • Following Jesus, be intentionally incarnational in our city! We seek to make God’s glory visible. (John 1:14).
  • Cultivate ownership of the lostness of Elkhart so members grow fearless in making Christ and His Kingdom known. Rightly envisioning the local church as a portal to heaven, we invite the lost to forsake the kingdom of Satan and pledge allegiance to the Kingdom of Light where redemption & forgiveness are found (1 Peter 2:9-10, Colossians 1:13-14).
  • Cultivate ownership for the lost in Elkhart. We envision the local church as a portal to heaven, the place where redemption & forgiveness are found (1 Peter 2:9-10, Colossians 1:13-14).
  • Foster a way of living that demonstrates heavenly citizenship and allegiance to King Jesus, while recognizing duties in the Lord to be good subjects to all governing authorities instituted by God (Romans 13:1-7).
  • Build relationships with other gospel-centered churches. Christ has only one Church, so we retain a bigger vision of God’s work in Elkhart. (Ephesians 4:11-16).
  • To grow and plant other churches by entrusting the Gospel to faithful leaders who are able to teach others. (2 Timothy 2:2)
