Our Story
Heart City Church is a PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) mission work under the oversight of Michiana Covenant and the Great Lakes Presbytery. Heart City Church was granted status as a mission work in Elkhart city in May 2019.
Why plant in the downtown?
Heart City desires to see the gospel impact Elkhart people so our city will be marked by the love and mercy of Christ. As exiles of the dispersion, Christians are called to be in the city, for the city, and praying for the city’s peace as this is where our peace is found (Jeremiah 29:7).
Pastor Joel
Joel Irvin is the Pastor at the Heart City Church Plant in his hometown Elkhart. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Mid America Seminary. His passion for Christ and the gospel, his love and understanding of Elkhart and its people, and his life experience have uniquely equipped him for a city church plant..
Pastor Joel and his wife Jamie are both lifelong residents of Elkhart. When given approval to plant, the Irvins moved into the northwest neighborhood near downtown. Joel has served in church leadership for over a decade, having served in multiple churches, college outreach, prison ministry, and he now serves as a chaplain at Elkhart General Hospital. Joel and Jamie are licensed foster parents. They enjoy movies, long walks, coffee, and playing with their big, fuzzy dog “Bella.
