Our Story
Heart City Church is a PCA Church in the Great Lakes Presbytery. Heart City Church was planted in 2020 and organized in 2025.
Why the downtown?
Heart City desires to see the gospel impact Elkhart people so our city will be marked by the love and mercy of Christ. As exiles of the dispersion, Christians are called to be in the city, for the city, and praying for the city’s peace as this is where our peace is found (Jeremiah 29:7).
Pastor Joel
Joel Irvin is Pastor at Heart City Church. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Mid America Seminary. He was ordained as Associate Pastor of Michiana Covenant PCA prior to his call to inner city ministry. Joel’s passion for Christ and the gospel, his love and understanding of Elkhart and its people, and his life experience have uniquely equipped him.
Pastor Joel and his wife Jamie are both lifelong residents of Elkhart. When given approval to plant, the Irvins moved into the northwest neighborhood near downtown. Joel has served in church leadership for over a decade, having served in multiple churches and multiple chaplaincies. Joel now serves as a part time chaplain at Elkhart General Hospital. Joel and Jamie are licensed foster parents and have cared for around 40 children over 10 years. They enjoy movies, long walks, coffee, and playing games with friends.
